Wamala Region Police Get 95 New Motorcycles to Enhance Crime Response

The Wamala Region of Uganda has seen a substantial upgrade in its policing capabilities with the deployment of 95 new motorcycles. This strategic distribution across Mubende, Mityana, Kassanda, Kiboga, and Kyankwanzi districts is designed to overcome previous mobility challenges faced by law enforcement.

Mubende district received the largest share with 33 motorcycles, followed by Mityana with 19. Kassanda and Kyankwanzi each received 15, while Kiboga was allocated 13. This influx of vehicles is expected to enable police officers to reach communities more rapidly, enhancing both routine patrols and their ability to respond to crime and other urgent incidents.

Wamala Region Police Spokesperson, SSP Lameck Kigozi, highlighted that the new motorcycles are crucial for improving crime prevention efforts and ensuring prompt responses. “The motorcycles are intended to improve mobility and enable officers to respond quickly to incidents and carry out crime prevention activities within their areas of responsibility,” Kigozi stated.

Each sub-county police station is slated to receive at least two motorcycles, with further deployments anticipated to ensure comprehensive coverage. The police force has also issued a stern warning to officers against the misuse or reckless handling of these valuable assets, emphasizing that they are essential tools in the fight against crime and must be maintained and used solely for official duties. Disciplinary action will be taken against any officer found to be negligent or misusing the motorcycles.

Furthermore, the public is encouraged to report any instances of abuse or misuse of these police motorcycles to the authorities. This deployment is a key step in strengthening the police presence at the community level and improving the overall security response across the Wamala Region.
