Durban Mass Shooting Leaves 11 Dead

Eleven people lost their lives in a shocking mass shooting that occurred late Tuesday night in KwaMakhutha township, near the South African city of Durban.

According to police reports, an unknown number of gunmen stormed a residential house where 14 individuals were present. The attackers opened fire, killing ten people at the scene. Four others were rushed to the hospital, but sadly, one succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities have indicated that some of the victims may have been involved in illegal activities, a detail they cannot elaborate on further to protect the ongoing investigation. The motive behind the attack remains unconfirmed, but police have not ruled out a feud between rival criminal groups.

Initial information suggests the victims, comprising 13 men and one woman (who is believed to be pregnant), were reportedly having a party when the assailants arrived. The pregnant woman was among those who died in the attack.

Witness reports from the scene mentioned that the gunmen set fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the victims before fleeing. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who were reportedly armed with pistols and rifles.

South Africa grapples with a high murder rate, and this incident adds to a series of violent events that have plagued the country. Rivalries among criminal gangs, drug trafficking, and illegal mining are often cited as drivers of such violence.
