Journalist Eria Jengo's Family and UJA Petition Human Rights Commission Over Disappearance

The family of Baba TV journalist Eria Jengo, who has been missing for two weeks, has formally petitioned the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) to aid in tracing his whereabouts. Jengo’s mother, Katalina Nalubanjwa, and her husband, Ssaka Koprian, traveled from Nakaseke to Kampala to submit the petition, accompanied by leaders from the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA).

The family expressed significant distress over Jengo’s disappearance, highlighting his role as a key provider for his younger siblings. Nalubanjwa made a direct appeal to President Yoweri Museveni for intervention.

UJA Secretary General Emmanuel Kirunda stated that the association is engaging all possible institutions to find Jengo. While the UHRC has received the petition, no timeline for a response has been provided yet.

Jengo’s wife, Teddy Catherine Kwiza, has had to set aside her work due to the ongoing uncertainty. “I do not even know whether he still has his job because I left everything to look for my husband,” she shared.

Colleagues at Baba TV are also deeply concerned. The Head of News, Andrew Mayanja Ssaava, noted that Jengo had been covering security-related stories prior to his disappearance, though the exact cause of his vanishing remains unknown to them. Both the family and UJA are urging authorities to intensify search efforts and provide answers to the distressed family.
