Luweero Police Get New Motorcycles to Combat Criminal Gangs

Luweero District is receiving a significant boost in its fight against crime with the distribution of 20 new motorcycles to police stations. Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mariam Nalubega handed over the vehicles, emphasizing their crucial role in enhancing police mobility and operational effectiveness.

Nalubega stated that the lack of transport has often hampered police operations. With these new motorcycles, she expects a marked increase in patrols and a more rapid response to incidents such as livestock theft, motorcycle robberies, and nighttime burglaries that have been plaguing the community.

The RDC urged officers to embrace community policing strategies, using the motorcycles to detect and address criminal activities promptly. She also issued a stern warning against the misuse of the vehicles, cautioning against drink-driving and speeding to ensure the safety of both officers and the public.

Particular attention is to be paid to criminal gangs and groups accused of terrorizing residents, especially in urban areas. “Our people must be able to sleep peacefully in their homes,” Nalubega declared, vowing to prevent criminal elements from disrupting the peace.

These 20 motorcycles are part of a larger deployment to the Savannah Region, which includes Luweero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola districts. In total, the region has received 52 motorcycles to bolster police operations. ASP Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, expressed gratitude for the government’s support, noting that the enhanced mobility will significantly improve the force’s ability to respond to emergencies.

This initiative comes as police continue their efforts to curb prevalent crimes across the country, including theft and robbery. The new equipment is expected to make a tangible difference in maintaining law and order in Luweero and the wider Savannah Region.
