Museveni Confirmed for Tooro King's Coronation

The coronation of Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, the new King of Tooro, is scheduled for September 29th, with President Yoweri Museveni confirmed to attend. State Minister for Gender and Culture, Mary Kamuli Kutesa, announced the President’s attendance and noted that preparations at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal City are proceeding smoothly.

Kutesa encouraged the people of Tooro and the wider public to participate in what she termed a significant moment for the kingdom. The organizing committee, through its communications head Fr. Charles Oyo, highlighted the regular meetings being held to finalize event details. A fundraising effort for the required Shs 925 million is also reportedly progressing, with contributions coming in from various sources.

Fr. Oyo appealed for continued support and participation from the people of Tooro and their allies. The head of protocol for the organizing committee, Richard Rwabuhinga, indicated that the ceremony is anticipated to draw a distinguished guest list. This includes leaders from other traditional institutions within Uganda and internationally, along with politicians, business leaders, heads of diplomatic missions, and the general public.

Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was chosen as the successor by a 21-member committee from the Babiito royal clan, following the passing of the previous monarch, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. The event promises to be a landmark occasion for the Tooro Kingdom.
