Police Fatally Shoot Suspected Robber in Maracha

A swift police response in Maracha District led to the death of a suspected armed robber late Monday evening. The incident unfolded at Asili Petrol Station in Maracha Town Council, where three individuals allegedly attempted to rob the establishment.

According to SSP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional police spokesperson, officers were alerted to the robbery in progress and arrived at the scene promptly. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the fatal shooting of one suspect. Police were able to recover a sub-machine gun (SMG) from the deceased.

The other two alleged robbers managed to flee the scene and are the subject of an ongoing manhunt. “A team of officers are on ground hunting for them,” SSP Angucia stated, appealing for calm among residents as the investigation progresses.

The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been confirmed and their body has been taken to a local hospital for identification by relatives. The recovered firearm has been secured as evidence.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the escaped suspects to come forward and report to the nearest police station. This incident occurs within a broader context of intensified security operations in the West Nile sub-region aimed at curbing armed robberies, illegal firearm possession, and other violent criminal activities.
