Ugandan mother overwhelmed by triplets faces financial and emotional strain

Ms Obvious Atuhaire, a 29-year-old mother from Kagando, is finding it incredibly difficult to care for her six-month-old triplets. The immense responsibility has taken a significant toll, both financially and emotionally, since their birth.
Her journey with the triplets, Gloria Ainembabazi, Ian Tukwatanise, and Flavia Aineobushoborozi, began with a surprise discovery. During an antenatal check-up at five months, Ms Atuhaire learned she was expecting not one, but three babies.
Complications arose during her pregnancy, leading to a transfer to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. It was there, at eight months pregnant, that she delivered the triplets via caesarean section. The newborns were premature and required immediate care in the neonatal unit, where they stayed for over a month to stabilize their health.
Since bringing her babies home, Ms Atuhaire has been grappling with the day-to-day realities of raising three infants simultaneously. The constant needs of the triplets, coupled with limited resources, have created an overwhelming situation for the young mother.
