UNEB Warns Schools Against Falsifying Special Needs Cases

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is urging head teachers to ensure the accuracy of Special Needs Education (SNE) information submitted for the upcoming 2026 national examinations. The board has noted a trend of potentially false SNE cases being reported and is cautioning school administrators against this practice.

This directive comes as UNEB gears up for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams. Executive Director Dan Odongo emphasized that submitted candidate information must be truthful and accurately reflect the needs of registered learners.

For the 2026 examination cycle, UNEB has registered a total of 6,090 learners with special needs. Odongo stated that while the board is committed to an inclusive examination process, it is crucial that the accommodations provided are based on genuine, verifiable requirements.

To support visually impaired candidates, UNEB has made Braille versions of the UCE and UACE timetables available. Head teachers, as heads of examination centers, bear the responsibility of verifying all candidate details before endorsing registration records. They are instructed to cross-check information and promptly report any discrepancies to UNEB.

Overall, UNEB has registered 1,627,885 candidates for the 2026 examinations. The board is currently displaying candidate registers until October 7, allowing schools and learners a final opportunity to review and confirm their details before the examinations commence. UNEB reiterates its call for meticulous accuracy in all submitted data.
