Afrigo Band Star Moses Matovu Not Intended Target in Fatal Altercation, Girlfriend Claims

A shocking turn of events has emerged following the death of Afrigo Band icon Moses Matovu, with his alleged girlfriend, Rose Tusiime, suggesting he was not the primary target. Matovu, aged 77, tragically passed away after a violent confrontation that began at Tusiime’s rented room in Kibuli.

According to Tusiime’s statement, she and Matovu were in her room from around 2 am until 5 am when her former boyfriend arrived. The man allegedly became aggressive when Tusiime refused to open the door, resorting to breaking windows.

Upon seeing Matovu inside, the ex-boyfriend reportedly disregarded Tusiime’s explanation that he was her father, escalating his aggression. A local defence official, Rogers Tukamuhebwa, stated that the landlord intervened, but the suspect waited outside.

Tukamuhebwa recounted that Tusiime escorted Matovu to his vehicle. As she approached him, the suspect allegedly attacked her. Matovu then exited his vehicle to intervene, questioning the assault on Tusiime. It was at this point that the suspect allegedly turned on Matovu, punching him.

Witnesses reported that the suspect had claimed to pay rent for the room and questioned Tusiime bringing other men there. During the ensuing struggle outside, Matovu was allegedly punched, fell, and sustained a severe head injury.

He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. Police have arrested Tusiime and are actively searching for the main suspect, described as a private security guard, who remains at large. The motive and exact circumstances of the killing are still under investigation.
