Afrigo Band Star Moses Matovu's Death Probed as Crime of Passion; Police Seek Ex-Boyfriend

Tragedy has struck the Ugandan music scene with the death of Moses Matovu, a founding member of the renowned Afrigo Band. Matovu was fatally attacked in an apparent confrontation fueled by a personal dispute in Kibuli, Kampala, on Thursday morning.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the incident occurred around 5:30 AM. Preliminary reports suggest Matovu had gone to visit a woman identified as Rose. As they were leaving her residence, they were allegedly confronted by a male suspect, believed to be a former romantic partner of Rose.

The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Matovu sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda-boda rider but tragically succumbed to his wounds.

Police have taken Rose into custody to aid their investigation. She is assisting detectives in identifying and locating the male suspect, who reportedly fled the scene after the attack. Investigators believe the suspect is a private security guard and are actively working to track him down.

“We are doing everything within our means to have the suspect arrested,” Kawala assured, extending condolences to Matovu’s family, friends, and fans. “Justice will be served.”

Forensic teams are examining the crime scene for evidence as the investigation continues with a focus on apprehending the fleeing suspect.
