Kampala Police Nab Seven Suspects, Recover Stolen Electronics

Police in Kampala have successfully apprehended seven suspects during a targeted operation aimed at curbing rampant robbery and phone snatching in the Kinawataka and surrounding areas. The operation, conducted by officers from Jinja Road Division, focused on zones including Kinawataka, Kalerwe, and Central in Mbuya One Parish, Nakawa Division.

The arrests followed intelligence reports indicating a group of criminals actively engaged in robberies, burglaries, and the theft of mobile phones within the community.

Those arrested have been identified as Edward Kyabagu, George Kutosi, Ronald Kajura, Godwin Muzaale, Bengo Arafat, Samuel Boyi, and James Odomel Victor. Preliminary investigations suggest potential links between some of these suspects and a larger criminal network operating in the region. They are currently being interrogated in connection with a registered robbery case at Kinawataka Police Station and other recent incidents involving theft of electronic devices.

During the crackdown, authorities recovered a substantial amount of stolen property. This includes a 55-inch Hisense smart television, audio speakers, over 14 mobile phones, a laptop, housebreaking tools, panga, laptop bags, and student identification cards, all believed to be linked to the suspects’ alleged criminal activities.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that the suspects are in custody at Kinawataka Police Station. He emphasized that efforts are underway to identify the rightful owners of the recovered items and to apprehend any remaining accomplices. Police are urging the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities to aid in dismantling the broader criminal network.
