The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has announced an unprecedented interest rate of 22.53% for its members’ savings for the financial year that concluded on June 30, 2026. This figure represents a substantial leap from the 13.5% interest rate declared in the preceding financial year.

This landmark declaration signifies the highest interest rate ever distributed by NSSF to its members since its inception four decades ago. The impressive performance is underpinned by a robust growth in total income, which surged from Shs3.5 trillion to Shs6.51 trillion during the same financial period.

NSSF’s Managing Director, Patrick Ayota, highlighted the Fund’s strong financial performance, attributing the record interest rate to strategic investments and effective management of members’ funds. This high return is expected to significantly boost the savings of NSSF members across the country.

The declaration comes at a time when NSSF is also exploring new avenues for growth, including targeting the Ugandan diaspora for voluntary savings. The Fund aims to encourage more Ugandans, both at home and abroad, to secure their financial future through diligent savings. The successful financial year performance is a testament to NSSF’s commitment to maximizing returns for its contributors.

This surge in interest rate is particularly noteworthy given the challenges faced in the broader economic landscape. NSSF’s ability to deliver such a high return demonstrates its resilience and sound financial stewardship. Members can look forward to a significant increase in their accumulated savings as a result of this exceptional performance.
