Police: Afrigo Band Co-founder Moses Matovu Killed in Love Triangle Dispute

Moses Matovu, a celebrated figure in Uganda’s music scene and a founding member of the iconic Afrigo Band, was fatally assaulted early Thursday morning in Kibuli, Kampala. Police have arrested Rose Tumusiime, who was with Matovu at the time of the incident, and preliminary findings point towards a confrontation stemming from a love triangle.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, Matovu sustained severe injuries during the assault, which occurred around 5:30 AM. He was transported to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but tragically passed away while undergoing treatment.

Investigators have identified a private security guard, who was reportedly in a past relationship with Tumusiime, as the main male suspect. This individual fled the scene after the altercation and is currently the subject of an intensive police manhunt. Residents in the area have also reportedly described Tumusiime as a sex worker, though this aspect is still part of the ongoing investigation.

“The male suspect has been positively identified and is believed to have fled the scene,” Kawala stated. “Police are actively pursuing him to facilitate his arrest and assist in establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Matovu’s death has sent shockwaves through the Ugandan entertainment industry, highlighting a pattern of similar violent incidents involving prominent individuals in the country, often linked to relationships and alleged romantic entanglements.
