Police Investigate Afrigo Band Musician Matovu Moses' Death Following Physical Altercation

The Uganda Police Force has linked the tragic death of popular Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses to a physical altercation. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Rachael Kawala, initial investigations indicate that a dispute between the deceased and a male suspect, reportedly a former partner of Moses’ girlfriend, escalated into a violent confrontation.

The incident is reported to have occurred early on Thursday morning, September 24, 2026, near a residence in Kibuli Depot, Makindye Division, Kampala. Police stated that Matovu had visited his girlfriend, and as they were leaving, they were confronted by the male suspect.

A physical fight ensued, during which Matovu sustained severe injuries. He was subsequently rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but was pronounced dead upon arrival due to the severity of his wounds.

Authorities have taken Matovu’s female companion into custody to aid in the ongoing investigation. The male suspect, who has been identified, is reportedly at large, and police are actively seeking his apprehension to understand his role in the incident.

Police have emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and they are working to verify all accounts and establish the precise circumstances surrounding the musician’s death. They have appealed to the public for calm and urged anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
