Uganda Parliament Speaker Praises China's Development Contributions

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth-Oboth has expressed strong appreciation for China’s contributions to Uganda’s progress. Speaking at an event in Kampala that celebrated the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and welcomed the new Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Wu Guangrong, Oboth underscored the benefits derived from the two nations’ strategic partnership.

He pointed to substantial Chinese investments that have bolstered Uganda’s agricultural and infrastructure sectors. Oboth cited the successful construction of projects such as the Isimba Dam and the Mandela National Stadium as testaments to this collaboration. Furthermore, he acknowledged the valuable role of Chinese medical teams in enhancing Uganda’s healthcare system and saving lives.

The event, attended by various dignitaries including government officials and business leaders, also featured an exhibition of Chinese innovations. Ambassador Wu reiterated the long-standing friendship between China and Uganda, dating back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1962. He emphasized mutual respect, support, and close cooperation in diverse fields including trade, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare.

State Minister for Finance, Amina Mukalazi, echoed these sentiments, noting that Chinese investments have yielded positive results, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, and value addition. She encouraged continued support for the Chinese community and strengthened bilateral cooperation. Both nations continue to explore avenues for collaboration, leveraging Uganda’s resources and youthful population with China’s capital, technology, and development expertise, further deepening their economic and diplomatic ties.
