Suspect Arrested in Afrigo Band Legend Moses Matovu's Death

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of Vincent Nsamba, a 41-year-old private security guard, in connection with the killing of Moses Matovu, a celebrated figure in Uganda’s music scene with the Afrigo Band. Nsamba was apprehended on Thursday in the Nansana Division of Wakiso district.

The incident reportedly occurred when Matovu accompanied his alleged girlfriend, Rose Tusiime, to her residence. According to initial police reports, an altercation ensued when Nsamba, upon arriving at the scene, attempted to gain entry to the room. Tusiime allegedly refused to open the door, leading Nsamba to break a window.

Nsamba is then said to have waited outside. As Matovu was leaving the premises in the early morning hours, Nsamba allegedly confronted Tusiime and began assaulting her. Matovu intervened in the conflict, and Nsamba is accused of then punching Matovu, causing him to fall and sustain a severe head injury.

Matovu was immediately transported to Kibuli Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead. The Kampala Metropolitan Police stated that investigations are ongoing to piece together the complete sequence of events and to ascertain the precise cause of Matovu’s fatal injuries.

Rose Tusiime, who was initially detained to aid detectives, remains in custody at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters in Kibuli. Her residence underwent an extensive search by detectives as they gathered evidence related to the incident.

Senior police officials, including CID commanders for Kampala Metropolitan and Kampala South Region, are overseeing the investigation and interrogations.
