Uganda Urges Swedish Investors to Explore Opportunities

Col. Edith Nakalema, the head of Uganda’s State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), has extended a warm invitation to Swedish investors to explore the diverse opportunities available within Uganda. During a meeting with Swedish Ambassador Anna-Maria Olsson on September 23, 2026, Col. Nakalema emphasized the government’s commitment to providing robust support and establishing mechanisms to safeguard investments. She highlighted SHIPU’s role in addressing administrative hurdles by coordinating with various government agencies to ensure timely and efficient support for investors.
Col. Nakalema also showcased the Electronic Investors Protection Portal (EIPP), a digital platform designed to assist investors with due diligence and facilitate connections with relevant government bodies before committing capital. “We are committed to creating an investment environment where investors can conduct their due diligence early, access the right government institutions and receive coordinated support throughout their investment journey,” she stated.
Discussions also touched upon potential collaboration in technology and innovation, particularly initiatives that could foster employment and enhance skills among Uganda’s youth. Uganda’s priority investment sectors, including Agro-processing, Tourism, Minerals, and Science and Technology (ATMS), were presented as areas ripe for expansion in production, value addition, and job creation.
Ambassador Olsson affirmed that trade and business are central to the bilateral relationship between Sweden and Uganda, with economic diplomacy playing a crucial role. She identified energy and transport as key sectors with potential for increased commercial cooperation. The ambassador also presented Sweden’s ‘Team Sweden’ approach, a collaborative effort involving various Swedish entities to support private-sector-led growth. The meeting concluded with SHIPU reaffirming its dedication to protecting Swedish foreign direct investment and fostering stronger partnerships between Swedish and Ugandan businesses.
