Court Throws Out Wakiso LC5 Election Challenge, But Petitioner Vows Appeal

The High Court in Wakiso has dismissed a petition filed by a registered voter, Farouq Lule, challenging the election of the Wakiso District Chairperson, Eng Ian Kyeyune. Lule had cited alleged irregularities in Kyeyune’s nomination process, including concerns over academic qualifications and inconsistencies in the names used.

Lule, a voter from Ndejje in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, had also named the Electoral Commission and the Returning Officer as respondents in his petition. He sought the annulment of Kyeyune’s victory, arguing that the nomination process was flawed.

However, the court’s decision saw the petition dismissed. Despite the court’s ruling, Mr Lule stated his dissatisfaction with the outcome. He has indicated his intention to pursue the matter further by filing an appeal against the High Court’s decision.

This legal battle highlights ongoing scrutiny of election processes and nomination procedures within the district. The dismissal of the petition does not mark the end of the legal contest, as the petitioner is determined to challenge the ruling at a higher judicial level.
