Police Reconstruct Scene of Afrigo Band Legend Moses Matovu's Fatal Attack
Police in Kampala have reconstructed the crime scene where Afrigo Band co-founder Moses Matovu was fatally attacked. Detectives, supported by a significant joint security detail including the Uganda Police Force, UPDF, and Flying Squad, meticulously recreated the events leading to the death of the renowned musician. The operation took place at Kibuli Depot and Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala.
Sources indicate that the incident began when Matovu intervened in an altercation involving Rose Tumusiime and her former partner, identified as Vincent Arnold Nsamba. Eyewitness accounts suggest Matovu asked Nsamba why he was assaulting Tumusiime.
During the ensuing confrontation, Nsamba allegedly struck Matovu with a forceful blow below the chin. This impact caused the veteran musician to collapse and sustain a severe head injury, resulting in significant bleeding. Nsamba reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Rose Tumusiime has been taken into custody to aid police investigations and assist in locating the primary suspect, Nsamba. Security forces maintained a tight cordon around the crime scene to prevent agitated residents from interfering with the reconstruction or potentially harming the suspects, who were being held by authorities.
Moses Matovu was a foundational figure in Uganda’s music industry, co-founding the iconic Afrigo Band and leading it for over five decades. His death has sent ripples through the nation’s cultural landscape.
