Leaders from the 11 districts of the Busoga sub-region convened at the Iganga District headquarters to express their support for General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions in 2031. The gathering saw numerous speakers laud Gen. Muhoozi’s leadership qualities, referencing his past roles, including Chief of Defence Forces.

During the event, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Sanjay Tanna, issued a stern warning against individuals impersonating the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to swindle money from civil servants. He urged the public to report such fraudulent activities to security personnel immediately.

Tanna also emphasized the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) need to identify a successor to President Yoweri Museveni to prevent future uncertainty. He commended the Busoga region’s voters for their support of the NRM, attributing it to the prevailing peace and economic progress under the party’s governance.

Iganga Resident District Commissioner, Eric Sewandingi, encouraged the youth to engage with government initiatives like the Parish Development Model to enhance household incomes, rather than focusing on trivial matters. He also pointed to internal conflicts and infighting within the Basoga community as hindrances to regional development.

PLU coordinators confirmed that mobilization for Kainerugaba’s 2031 campaign is actively underway, with sub-county coordinators tasked with garnering support. The organization aims to collect over 20 million signatures from supporters nationwide.

One local leader, Faoruk Nampala, cited Gen. Muhoozi’s firm stance against corruption as a key reason for his support, stating, “He has no kind words for any government officials involved in acts of corruption of public funds and these are the type of leaders we want in this era.”
