Authorities in Busia District have arrested a man identified as Edrine Bwire in connection with the alleged kidnapping and subsequent murder of a three-year-old girl. The suspect was apprehended in Namayingo District following an investigation that began after the child’s parents reported her missing.
Evelyn Nabwire, 3, disappeared on September 24 while playing with other children at the suspect’s home in Bubolwa Village, Busia District. According to police, Bwire later contacted the girl’s father, David Ouma, demanding Shs2 million for her release, a sum he later increased to Shs7 million. The parents subsequently alerted the police.
The situation took a tragic turn when the father received a call indicating his daughter’s body had been found abandoned on the Jinja Highway. Police responded to the scene and found the child’s body with multiple injuries, including cuts and bruises. A forensic team conducted an examination and collected evidence, with the body sent for a postmortem examination.
Following an investigation involving a canine unit tracking a scent from the discovery site, police located and arrested Bwire in Namayingo District. During interrogation, Bwire allegedly confessed to the crime, and his statement was recorded. Investigations are ongoing, and police are urging parents to exercise increased vigilance in monitoring their children.
