Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Michael Kyakashari, has issued a stern warning to cultural leaders, religious figures, and the general public regarding the measles-rubella vaccination campaign. He cautioned against the spread of misinformation or any actions that could sabotage the crucial five-day health initiative.

Kyakashari emphasized that the security and health teams are vigilantly overseeing the vaccination exercise. “Anyone found deliberately obstructing it will be arrested and prosecuted,” he stated, underscoring the seriousness with which the district is treating the campaign.

Speaking at the district’s campaign launch held at Kabale Primary School, Kyakashari urged parents and guardians to prioritize the vaccination of all eligible children. He highlighted the importance of ensuring every child receives the jab to protect them from measles and rubella.

Dr. Gilbert Arinaitwe Mateeka, the Kabale District Health Officer, reassured the community about the vaccine’s safety and efficacy. He encouraged parents to utilize the campaign period to safeguard their children against these preventable diseases. The district aims to vaccinate approximately 50,000 children during this period.

Nationally, the Ministry of Health is targeting over 7.4 million children aged nine months to five years in this five-day campaign, with the goal of enhancing vaccination coverage and preventing severe complications from measles and rubella.
