Authorities in Mubende District have confirmed the recovery of the body of Ronald Kansiime, an 18-year-old who tragically drowned in a local dam. The incident occurred on October 1, 2026, in Kyota Village, Madudu Sub-county.

According to Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, Kansiime, a peasant farmer, had gone out seeking casual work to spray crops for a neighbour. Later that afternoon, children drawing water from the dam discovered clothing and sandals by the water’s edge but found no one. They alerted the dam owner, Bright Niwagaba Rwambuka, who then reported Kansiime’s disappearance to the Madudu Sub-county Police Station.

A joint rescue operation involving the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, the homicide unit, and medical personnel was launched. The team successfully retrieved Kansiime’s body from the depths of the dam, where it had become lodged in silt.

Following an examination by a doctor at the scene and the recording of witness statements, the body was handed over to Kansiime’s grieving family for burial. The police have reiterated warnings to the public, especially young people, to be extremely cautious around dams and other unfamiliar bodies of water. They advised against swimming or bathing in areas where the depth and conditions are unknown. The community has also been urged to report any suspected drowning incidents to the authorities promptly to aid in swift rescue efforts.
