The Busoga region has wrapped up its fourth annual Prayer Week, an interfaith gathering that brought together various religious denominations and local leaders. Held under the theme “Let’s Raise Up and Build,” the event focused on fostering unity and promoting economic development across the sub-region.
First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, who is also the patron of the Busoga Consortium for Development (BCD), encouraged residents to view agriculture as a commercial enterprise. She highlighted opportunities in soybean and palm oil production, as well as poultry and soya milk, as avenues for wealth creation.
The week served as a moment for reflection on the five years of implementing the Busoga Development Agenda (BDA), a framework aimed at coordinating development priorities. Organizers, including the BCD and the Interreligious Council of Busoga, expressed satisfaction with the progress made.
Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the Katukiiro (Prime Minister) of Busoga Kingdom, stressed the importance of unity among the people, stating that division hinders the sub-region’s development. He emphasized that collective effort is crucial for advancing Busoga.
Local leaders also raised pressing issues such as land conflicts and challenges faced by local governments. The host district chairman, Mr. David Zijja, requested Ms. Kadaga to present these concerns to the national government for consideration and intervention.
The Prayer Week featured participation from leaders across Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Muslim, Born Again, and Seventh-day Adventist faiths, underscoring a collaborative approach to regional progress.
