The family of musician Christopher Gody, widely known as King Zale, has voiced renewed pleas for his whereabouts after recognizing him in recently surfaced video clips. The footage was disseminated by former intelligence operative Lt Herbert Matanda Mabonga, who has accused the military of human rights abuses.
According to King Zale’s wife, Lilian Nakiwala, the musician appears towards the end of one of the videos. Mabonga claims these clips were recorded within a military safe house located in Abayita Ababiri, Entebbe.
King Zale has been missing for 171 days, having allegedly been abducted on April 21, 2026, near Kampala’s Firebase Crew offices. His family suspects security operatives were involved, citing that some abductors wore uniforms associated with the Special Forces Command (SFC) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Despite extensive searches at various detention centers and a dismissed habeas corpus application in the High Court, the family has received no official information regarding King Zale’s status or any potential charges. The court dismissed their plea after all named respondents, including state security agencies, denied holding him.
Nakiwala expressed the family’s deep distress, highlighting King Zale’s role as the sole provider and his mother’s medical expenses. She conveyed the anguish of not knowing his location, contrasting it with the situation of other families whose loved ones are confirmed to be in known detention facilities. The family fears King Zale might suffer a fate similar to that of John Bosco Kibalama, who disappeared in 2019 and whose whereabouts remain unconfirmed despite conflicting statements from authorities.
The UPDF has labeled Mabonga a deserter and distanced itself from the released footage. Security agencies maintain that King Zale is not in their custody. The police continue to advise families of missing persons to report cases to facilitate investigations.
