Hoima District Deputy RDC Christopher Aine has called upon residents to actively participate in ongoing investigations by reporting any instances of corruption involving local officials. This appeal comes amidst serious allegations leveled against the detained RDC Rogers Mbabazi and District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha.
Aine made this plea during a community meeting organized by the Inspectorate of Government in Hoima City. Several residents present voiced concerns regarding corruption and abuse of office by the two leaders.
RDC Mbabazi was recently arrested as part of a government anti-corruption campaign. He is accused of soliciting money from residents for resolving land disputes but allegedly failing to follow through on his promises. Some complainants further allege that Mbabazi showed bias towards wealthier individuals in land dispute cases.
A police inquiry file has been opened to investigate these claims. Deputy RDC Aine emphasized the importance of residents coming forward with any relevant information or complaints to the Kitoba Police Station for formal documentation before the case proceeds to court.
District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha also faces allegations. One resident claimed to have paid Shs25 million to Mugisha for a promised promotion for his uncle, a promise that was reportedly not fulfilled. While Mugisha was also implicated at an anti-corruption rally, the minister did not order his arrest as the matter was already before the courts.
A separate police file concerning Mugisha has also been opened. Deputy RDC Aine encouraged others with grievances against the district chairperson to also report their concerns. The handling of Mugisha’s case has faced scrutiny due to the file being referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Kampala, with questions arising about its transfer from Hoima.
Hoima City Central Police Station commander confirmed the file was completed but its subsequent journey to Kampala has caused delays. Police await the file’s return and further guidance before proceeding. These developments underscore the government’s commitment to combating corruption within local administrations.
Authorities continue to encourage citizens to report misconduct through official channels to support justice and accountability. https://nilepost.co.ug/news/378452/hoima-deputy-rdc-urges-residents-to-report-corruption-allegations-against-officials
