Tejas Ghanshyambhai Patel, an insurance broker of Indian descent residing in Kampala, has been formally charged with aggravated human trafficking. He appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Makindye, where prosecutors presented an amended charge sheet detailing 15 counts against him and a co-accused, Yogesh Yadav, also known as Yogi.
Yadav, who manages the Green Lounge in Kisugu, Makindye Division, had previously been remanded. The prosecution alleges that Patel and Yadav, along with others still at large, engaged in recruiting, transporting, and harbouring several women. These women were allegedly deceived or coerced through payments to secure their consent for prostitution or sexual exploitation.
The alleged offences are reported to have taken place in Muyenga, Makindye Division, Kampala District, between February and September 2026. The charge sheet lists the alleged victims by name and specifies various months within this period where the recruitment and exploitation purportedly occurred.
As aggravated human trafficking is an offence exclusively tried by the High Court, Patel was not permitted to enter a plea. He has been remanded in custody until October 22, pending further proceedings. This development marks a significant escalation in the investigation into alleged human trafficking activities within the city.
