The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has officially rejected Agaba Gerald’s claim to the position of regional coordinator for Western Uganda. According to Frank Mwesigye, PLU’s head of media, a circulating letter bearing Agaba’s name is unauthorized and does not align with the organization’s established leadership structure.

Mwesigye clarified that all appointments for regional and sub-regional coordinators are exclusively made by the National Chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. He emphasized that no individual can assume such a role without the chairman’s explicit approval.

Instead, Mwesigye pointed to Balaam Barugahara, former Minister for the Presidency, as the PLU Vice Chairman for the Western Region, with regional coordination falling under his purview. Further appointments for the Ankole sub-region include Nzeire Shadrack as coordinator, deputized by Tabaro Didas Tumwesigye, and Polly Katwiire as spokesperson. These appointments, confirmed by Kainerugaba on February 16, 2024, were released by former PLU General Secretary Daudi Kabanda and were intended to operate under Barugahara’s supervision.

Mwesigye expressed disappointment that a known member would purportedly claim a regional leadership position without official sanction. The PLU is reportedly working to resolve the matter internally.

This dispute arises following a memo from Agaba, dated October 13, 2026, where he identified himself as the regional coordinator and addressed PLU coordinators across Western Uganda. In his memo, Agaba highlighted the contributions of grassroots members since 2022, noting their personal investments in building the movement without receiving salaries or facilitation. He also urged members to maintain discipline and avoid insulting leaders on social media, announcing upcoming events in Ntungamo District.

Mwesigye also provided clarification on the “Tuko Pamoja NRM/PLU Task Force,” stating it was a temporary entity formed to support campaign activities from November 2025 to February 2026. He encouraged PLU members and the public to disregard any communications that contradict the organization’s officially recognized appointments.
