The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), currently operating as a political pressure group, has initiated the process to transition into a formal political party. To this end, the group has formally requested the Electoral Commission (EC) to reserve its proposed identity, which includes a new name, colours, symbol, and slogan.

In a letter dispatched on October 9, 2026, the acting chief promoter for the group, Cankara Moses Mwaka, formally addressed the EC chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama. The letter specifically sought the reservation of the name ‘Patriotic League of Uganda Movement’ (PLUM), along with associated branding elements.

The application marks a significant step for the PLU in its ambition to operate as a registered political entity. The Electoral Commission’s response to this request will be a crucial determinant in the subsequent actions the group will take towards official party registration.

This move signals a strategic shift for the PLU, moving from a pressure group to a potentially influential player in Uganda’s formal political landscape, should their application be successful.
