At 67, Peter Mugerwa has embarked on a new chapter, dedicating his days to farming in Luweero District after a career spanning 47 years as a taxi tout and driver in Kampala.

Mugerwa, who once owned over five acres of land in Luweero, admits that much of his time spent in the city was not as fruitful as he had hoped. While his taxi work sustained his family’s basic needs, it meant they lived in a rented house in a Kampala suburb, with conditions becoming increasingly challenging as he aged.

The decision to shift his focus to farming in Luweero was driven by a desire for a more substantial return on his assets and a better quality of life. The land he owned, which had largely lain fallow for years, is now the center of his efforts to build a more secure future.

Mugerwa’s move highlights a growing trend of individuals seeking to leverage agricultural opportunities for economic stability and personal fulfillment, particularly after long careers in other sectors. His story underscores the potential for transformation and the pursuit of a more rewarding life beyond traditional employment.
