The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Buliisa District has been directed to suspend twelve district officials. This directive comes from Ben Kumumanya, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and misappropriation of public funds.
The implicated individuals were named during an anti-corruption baraza held in Buliisa on October 8, 2026, attended by the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara. Following this event, Kumumanya issued a letter on October 14, 2026, mandating the immediate interdiction of the accused staff.
The purpose of the interdiction is to facilitate unimpeded investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant state agencies. The list of affected officials includes senior figures such as the District Education Officer, Chief Finance Officer, District Natural Resources Officer, Acting District Health Officer, Acting District Engineer, and the Secretary to the District Service Commission.
Other officials facing suspension are the Secretary to the District Land Board, Senior Procurement Officer, District Water Officer, and three educators and local administrators: the head teachers of Kisiabi Primary School and Wanseko Town Primary School, and a parish chief. Kumumanya emphasized that the interdictions should be implemented according to Section 14 of the Public Service Standing Orders, 2021.
This directive follows the minister’s initial call for fourteen staff members to be interdicted. While the exact nature of all allegations against the twelve officials remains unconfirmed and unproven in court, the process has been initiated to ensure accountability.
