Tensions remain high in Nakaseke District over a protracted land dispute that has drawn the attention of President Yoweri Museveni. The conflict, centered on a 255-hectare parcel of land at Gomero-Ndalagi Village, pits veterans of the 1980s NRA liberation struggle against current occupants.
Despite a presidential directive that included funding surveyors to demarcate the land, a resolution is still elusive. The Nakaseke Resident District Commissioner, Ms. Rosemary Byabasaija, indicated that the district security committee has not yet authorized the enforcement of an eviction order. The matter has reportedly been escalated to the Ministry of Lands for further guidance.
The contested land, comprising Plots 32, 33, 34, and 35 within the Bulemezi area, was originally part of a larger 900-hectare estate. The ongoing disagreement has led to the deployment of police to prevent potential clashes between the involved parties.
This latest development underscores the persistent challenges in resolving land ownership conflicts in the region, even when high-level intervention is sought. The situation highlights the complexities of land administration and the need for definitive solutions to ensure peace and stability.
