State House employees recently benefited from a comprehensive medical camp held at Okello House in Nakasero, aimed at promoting a culture of wellness and preventive healthcare. The initiative, organized by Ms. Nachwa Viola, provided staff with access to crucial health services including HIV, TB, and cancer screenings, Hepatitis B testing, and Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) management.
Themed “Early Detection, Lifelong Protection: Your Future,” the camp underscored the importance of regular medical check-ups and timely interventions. Ms. Hope Nyakairu, Under Secretary for Finance and Administration, emphasized that a healthy workforce is vital for institutional productivity and commended the commitment to staff well-being.
Discussions during the event highlighted the Presidential Initiative to end HIV/AIDS as a public threat by 2030. Dr. Stephen Watiti, a long-term survivor living with HIV, shared his experience and stressed the importance of adherence to treatment and combating stigma. Sessions also covered tuberculosis screening, the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission, and the impact of lifestyle factors on health.
In addition to screenings and consultations, the camp included a blood donation drive organized in partnership with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services. The Uganda Cancer Institute also participated, encouraging routine cancer screenings to facilitate early diagnosis. Mental health was also addressed, emphasizing its integral role in overall well-being.
Officials reiterated that such wellness programs align with presidential directives for government institutions. Staff representatives expressed gratitude for the services, advocating for similar camps to be held quarterly to ensure continuous health monitoring and timely management of health conditions.
This medical camp reinforces State House’s dedication to its employees’ health, promoting a proactive approach to healthcare through accessible screenings, education, and support services. [Source: State House (Uganda)]
