Archbishop Emeritus Augustine Kasujja has issued a strong appeal to the youth of Uganda, urging them to be steadfast in their commitment to truth, justice, and integrity. He cautioned against the allure of dishonesty and hypocrisy, highlighting the profound impact such behaviors have on individual moral values and societal relationships.
Drawing inspiration from the Uganda Martyrs, who displayed immense courage in upholding their faith despite severe persecution, Archbishop Kasujja encouraged young people to cultivate similar bravery in standing for what is right. He emphasized that truth and justice are foundational pillars for achieving lasting peace and coexistence, advising against the temptation to deceive or misrepresent oneself for personal gain.
“One of the difficulties of our society in Uganda today is the fear of the truth. Many people do not have the courage to say the truth, and many are very smart, while telling lies so that they may appear to be on the gaining side,” Archbishop Kasujja stated, adding, “Such people forget that it is the truth that makes us free.”
These remarks were made during a fundraising dinner preceding the National Youth Convention 2026, an event organized by the Kampala Archdiocese to celebrate World Youth Day. The convention, themed “Take Courage, I Have Overcome the World,” is slated for December 7-12 and is expected to convene approximately 30,000 Catholic youth from across Uganda’s four Ecclesiastical Provinces. The Archdiocese is seeking Shs3 billion to support the convention’s preparations, aiming to provide a platform for spiritual reflection, skill development, and nation-building among young Catholics.
