Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, David Bahati, has been reinstated as the Kabale District chairperson for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. The decision comes from the NRM party secretariat following a review.
Bahati was initially elected as the district NRM chairman in May of the previous year. However, he had to step aside from his leadership role after participating in the NRM party primary elections for the Ndorwa West Constituency. Following his loss in the primaries, he chose to run as an independent candidate for the parliamentary seat.
In a letter dated October 15, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong informed district party administrators that individuals who had stepped aside due to running as independents after primary elections could now resume their positions. This directive follows a further consideration of the matter by the party’s Central Executive Committee.
Officials in Kabale have confirmed receipt of the directive. Amos Rwansheija, the Kabale District NRM party administrator, acknowledged the communication and stated that plans are in motion for its implementation.
The reinstatement is expected to fill a leadership void. Edison Turyahabwa, the Kabale NRM party general secretary, expressed his welcome to the decision, noting that the vice chairperson had been acting in Bahati’s place. Turyahabwa pledged full support to Bahati to ensure he completes his term as district party chairman.
