President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned an array of modern military facilities, equipment, and training infrastructure. The two-day rollout followed robust bilateral engagements between Uganda and a visiting Russian delegation led by Lt. Gen. Aleksandr Kshimovskii.

The high-level security tour covered critical areas such as military training, marine security, modern warfare technology, and advanced equipment maintenance to boost the operational readiness of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

President Museveni began the itinerary at the Mechanised Warfare College in Kalama, Mubende District, where he launched a digital multimedia training classroom equipped for BRDM-2MS armoured reconnaissance vehicle crews. He then proceeded to Entebbe to commission marine operational assets, including surveillance radar, patrol boats, a floating dock, and firefighting equipment.

On the second day, the President visited the 154 Marine Battalion School at Kalangalo before wrapping up the tour at Magamaga Cantonment in Jinja District. There, he commissioned a state-of-the-art mechanised major repair facility valued at $53 million, donated by the Russian government.

Addressing troops and officials, President Museveni urged the UPDF to embrace artificial intelligence, automation, and cutting-edge science to counter emerging threats. While expressing gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin for the generous support, the Ugandan leader emphasized the importance of developing local technical expertise and exploring domestic manufacturing partnerships with Russian experts.

Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka lauded the President for cementing strong diplomatic and military ties with Moscow. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Kshimovskii reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering commitment to supplying essential equipment and advancing technical cooperation with Uganda.
