Authorities in southwestern Uganda have interdicted a total of 63 government employees from both Rukungiri District and Rukungiri Municipality over allegations of corruption and the mismanagement of public funds. The sweeping administrative measures were announced during an anti-corruption campaign rally at the Rukungiri District Main Stadium.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Local Government and spearheaded by Minister Balaam Barugahara, while the names of the affected officials were read publicly by State House Anti-Corruption lawyer Samuel Sebikaari.
According to Minister Balaam, the interdictions are designed to clear the path for thorough investigations into alleged misconduct and to determine whether the personnel violated public service regulations. The targeted workers include several key district and municipal figures, such as engineers, education officers, internal auditors, procurement staff, and various town council and health workers.
In addition to the interdictions, Minister Balaam issued directives regarding the Parish Development Model (PDM), instructing the Chief Administrative Officer to immediately arrest and remove any parish chief accused of extorting money from program beneficiaries.
Government officials noted that interdiction serves strictly as an administrative measure to allow investigations to proceed unimpeded and does not automatically establish guilt. The affected employees retain the right to respond to the allegations through established administrative and legal channels.
