For many couples, walking down the aisle is a cherished milestone, but financial constraints often push this dream out of reach. Recently, the Association of Medical Doctors of Kigezi and Friends (AMDA) brought joy to Sheema District by organizing a mass wedding that enabled 34 couples to finally exchange their vows.
Among the beneficiaries were partners who had spent decades living together without a formal religious or legal ceremony. For some, the wait spanned over 40 years. The community event offered these couples a unique opportunity to celebrate their commitment surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers.
Mass weddings have increasingly become a popular initiative in various parts of Uganda, helping reduce the financial burden associated with traditional ceremonies. Couples often struggle with the high costs of venue hire, receptions, and attire, making community-backed initiatives a welcome relief.
The atmosphere in Sheema was filled with excitement as the brides and grooms donned their wedding garments. Leaders and organizers praised the resilience of the couples, noting that formalizing their marriages strengthens family bonds and community values.
Such initiatives continue to bridge the gap for underprivileged families, proving that love and commitment can eventually be celebrated in grand style regardless of the time it takes.
