Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has urged the administration of Kabale University to enhance agricultural research, practical training, and technology development to drive productivity throughout the Kigezi region. Delivering a message on her behalf during the university’s 11th graduation ceremony, Security Minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi emphasized that the institution must align its academic programs with national priorities like agro-industrialization and tourism.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening Irish potato production, dairy farming, and horticulture, which serve as foundational pillars for the local economy. She also encouraged the university to expand training in engineering and applied sciences to support regional mineral processing and industrial growth.
Addressing the 2,469 graduands, Ms Nabbanja cautioned them against treating their academic credentials merely as decorative certificates. She challenged the new graduates to become active champions of government development frameworks, including the Parish Development Model and Emyooga initiatives, to foster community transformation.
During the event, Chancellor Canon Mathew Rukikaire congratulated the graduands while drawing attention to significant infrastructure and resource deficits at the university. He noted that the institution requires urgent physical expansion and currently operates at only a fraction of its ideal human resource capacity.
