The Anti-Corruption Court has released former Ntare School headteacher Jimmy Turyagenda on a cash bail of Shs5 million. Turyagenda, 63, appeared before Principal Magistrate Christopher Opit after presenting substantial sureties and proof of a monetary transfer to the Inspectorate of Government’s Asset Recovery Bank Account.

Turyagenda faces charges alongside the current Ntare School headteacher, Saul Rwampororo, and former school typist Peace Kebirungi. The trio is accused of abuse of office and causing a financial loss totaling Shs110,877,900 to the government. Turyagenda has denied the charges and is scheduled to return to court on November 20, 2026.

According to the Inspectorate of Government, the case stems from allegations that Kebirungi presented a false university admission letter in October 2015 to secure paid study leave, but subsequently abandoned her duties. Investigators claim she continued receiving a government salary between September 2015 and August 2024 despite not reporting to work.

Furthermore, prosecutors allege that both Turyagenda and Rwampororo concealed her absence and authorized unlawful salary and allowance payments from school fees. Kebirungi later applied for early retirement in 2023, which Rwampororo allegedly forwarded despite her prolonged absence, leading to her receiving terminal benefits, gratuity, and a monthly pension by 2024.

Meanwhile, co-accused Rwampororo, currently out on an IG bond, failed to appear before the Inspectorate to record a statement, while Kebirungi reportedly left the premises before completing her statement.
