Families in Tororo District are facing severe hardships following a devastating storm that swept through the area, leaving hundreds of households counting their losses and struggling to secure alternative shelter.

In Agururu A2, located within the Western Division of Tororo Municipality, residents like Hamuza Kayima have been left with no roof over their heads. Strong winds completely destroyed his family home, forcing them to spend their nights out in the open compound. With no immediate accommodation available, Kayima and his children remain heavily exposed to harsh weather conditions and security risks.

A short distance away, Agnes Akello, a mother of four, is enduring a similar plight. The tempest ripped the roof entirely off her house, leaving the structure dangerously exposed. Despite the clear hazards of staying in a compromised building, Akello and her family have continued living inside because they simply have nowhere else to go.

Local leaders report that the scale of the disaster has quickly overwhelmed available community resources. Western Division Chairperson Manyadi Al-Jamal Jayz noted that hundreds of households have suffered significant damage. He has issued an urgent appeal for intervention to support the families as they struggle to recover from the disaster.

Authorities within the Office of the Resident District Commissioner indicate that at least 23 villages across Tororo District have been struck by the severe weather. Deputy RDC Faheera Mpalany stated that officials are actively compiling a comprehensive register of affected households. This process aims to establish the full extent of the destruction and guide a targeted district response.

For now, the primary concern for displaced residents is securing temporary shelter to shield vulnerable household members from further exposure to the elements.
