The General Court Martial sitting in Makindye has handed down death sentences to two former military informers following their conviction for orchestrating deadly fake bomb operations in Kampala.

Hamza Lyavaala and Adiil Walusansa received the capital punishment after pleading guilty to charges related to the June 2025 attacks. The incidents, which took place in the suburbs of Munyonyo and Kalerwe, resulted in the tragic deaths of two women.

During the sentencing, the military court chairman, Brig Richard Tukacungurwa, addressed mitigating arguments presented by the defence. While acknowledging the accused individuals’ previous roles in counterterrorism, their guilty pleas, and the time saved for the judicial process, the court determined these factors were heavily outweighed by the extreme gravity of the offenses.

Brig Tukacungurwa stated that the deliberate planning and execution of the murders demonstrated that the convicts posed a continued, permanent threat to public safety.

The case is part of a broader legal proceeding that has also implicated military personnel, including Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga, who has maintained a not-guilty plea. Investigations and related testimonies have drawn significant public attention to security operations and accountability within the country.
