The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has successfully wrapped up his extensive tour of the Ssese Islands. The visit culminated in the official opening of a new CBS Pewosa branch office, aimed at boosting financial inclusion and cooperative growth among local residents.

Addressing cooperative members and local communities during the tour, Mayiga stressed that unity and collective effort are essential weapons in the ongoing battle against poverty. He underscored the timeless adage that walking together ensures long-term success compared to traveling alone.

Highlighting poverty as one of the most significant burdens facing the region, the Katikkiro encouraged residents to fully adopt the wealth-creation campaigns championed by the Kabaka. He pointed out that poverty brings profound shame to the kingdom, urging people to focus on sustainable agricultural practices.

Specifically, Mayiga advised islanders to engage in growing coffee and matooke, rearing cattle, and practicing responsible land management to counter the growing exhaustion of local soils. These targeted efforts are designed to elevate household incomes, secure reliable food supplies, and enhance overall living standards throughout Buganda.

Furthermore, the Katikkiro called on the island community to leverage CBS Pewosa by forming and joining active cooperative groups. He noted that pooling financial resources and working in unison is the most effective pathway to achieving true economic transformation.

Residents were strongly encouraged to take full advantage of the newly established branch and actively participate in the kingdom’s broader development programs. For further details on this event, read the original report on Nile Post.
