US President Donald Trump has offered a blunt assessment of the recent midterm elections, taking aim at fellow Republicans while conceding that the Democrats executed a strong strategy. The opposition secured a momentous win, taking control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump did not hold back his frustration over specific party losses. He singled out Greg Abbott, who suffered a historic defeat in the Texas governor race against Democrat Gina Hinojosa. According to Trump, Abbott would have secured victory if he had not drifted from his core base in recent months, labeling him a “Republican in Name Only” (RINO). The defeat marks the first time in over three decades that a Democrat has claimed the Texas governorship.

Despite the setbacks, Trump stated in an interview with The New York Times that he is “absolutely willing to accept” the election outcomes and looks forward to cooperating with the opposition. He suggested that compromise is possible, though he also anticipated friction. Speaking to Fox News, Trump predicted that Democrats might advance legislation he considers extreme, prompting him to rely heavily on his veto power.

“After a couple of months of vetoes, they’ll call and they’ll say, ‘how do we get this stuff done?’ And we’ll work together,” Trump remarked. He further emphasized his blocking power by posting an image of a red cap featuring the word “VETO” online.

Trump also distanced himself from certain Republican candidates who failed at the polls, noting that some voters simply disliked the individuals or that the candidates lacked a close relationship with him. In addition to political rivals, Trump directed criticism toward Fox News, expressing displeasure with their election coverage and interview choices.
