A 25-year-old taxi driver from Wakiso District is awaiting sentencing after being convicted by the Makindye-based General Court Martial for unlawfully wearing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) military attire.
Isa Asimwe, who resides in Bulenga, appeared before the military court chaired by Brigadier Richard Tukacungurwa. He faced charges relating to the unauthorised wearing of military uniforms, which violates Section 162 of the amended UPDF Act of 2005.
During the proceedings, Asimwe pleaded guilty to the offense. The military court is scheduled to deliver its sentence against the young driver on November 10, 2026.
Under Ugandan legal frameworks, individuals who are not gazetted members of the armed forces are strictly prohibited from possessing, wearing, or displaying official military clothing, insignia, or equipment.
