The Uganda Police Force has issued a stern warning to content creators and digital influencers who film videos and engage in social media activities behind the wheel. Authorities emphasize that distracted driving severely compromises road safety and offenders will face criminal prosecution.

Speaking in Kampala, Traffic and Road Safety Directorate spokesperson SP Michael Kananura highlighted the growing trend of on-drive filming. He stressed that individuals engaging in this behavior endanger not only themselves but every other road user sharing the tarmac.

Under the Traffic and Road Safety Regulations of 2004, using mobile devices or navigating digital distractions while driving is strictly prohibited. Motorists convicted under these laws face penalties including up to one year in prison, a fine, or both.

This crackdown arrives amid alarming statistics regarding national road safety. Police reports from earlier in the year documented thousands of fatalities in recent traffic incidents, with young people representing a major share of the victims. Authorities note that human error drives the vast majority of these crashes, with careless overtaking and speeding remaining leading causes.

Meanwhile, road safety advocates continue to push for comprehensive reforms. Representatives from organizations like the Joe Walker Foundation have emphasized the need for better infrastructure and improved behavioral discipline among all road users ahead of upcoming national events dedicated to traffic safety.
