Prominent Kampala businesswoman Susan Kushaba has appeared before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to statements she made on social media. Kushaba stood before Chief Magistrate Ritah Kidasa Neumbe, where she formally denied three counts of sending false distress signals under Section 82 of the Uganda Communications Act.

According to prosecutors Allan Mucunguzi and Grace Amy, the charges stem from Kushaba’s appearances on “The Investigator” TikTok account between January and October 2026. State attorneys alleged that during these online broadcasts across areas including Mukono and Wakiso, Kushaba made derogatory statements labeling Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda as a land grabber and fraudster.

Furthermore, prosecutors stated that Kushaba accused State Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye of financial corruption, claiming he embezzled funds collected from taxi operators and boda boda riders in the capital. A third count involved allegations against Muzamiru Katumba Mirundi, whom Kushaba reportedly accused of taking possession of land belonging to Kamwokya KCCA Primary School.

Following her plea of not guilty, the prosecution informed the court that investigations into the matter have been concluded. The case has been scheduled for a bail hearing.

Observers note that the legal battle underscores a persistent political rivalry between Kushaba and Minister Kabanda. Their friction has previously played out through leadership wrangles at St Balikuddembe Market, commonly known as Owino Market—where Kushaba once served as interim chairperson—and during the race for the Kampala Central parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, which Kushaba lost to Kabanda. Kushaba is also a notable figure within the Patriotic League of Uganda.
