Budaka District Local Government recently gathered technical staff, political leaders, religious figures, and local residents for a consultative budget conference. The meeting focused on shaping spending priorities for a proposed Shs42 billion budget slated for the 2027/2028 financial year.
Opening the conference, Budaka District LC5 Chairperson Mr. Anthony Kateu urged technical officers to ensure that allocated funds translate into visible improvements on the ground. He stressed that communities want practical service delivery rather than theoretical projections and complex reports.
The proposed financial plan outlines significant allocations across vital sectors. The education department has been allocated Shs23.4 billion to tackle infrastructural gaps, including building classroom blocks and constructing five-stance pit latrines across several government-aided primary schools.
Meanwhile, the health sector received a resource envelope of Shs6.3 billion. Acting District Health Officer Ms. Hellen Wanyenze highlighted that capital allocations will fund a new general ward at Budaka Health Centre IV, maternity ward remodeling at Iki-Iki Health Centre III, and essential drug procurements.
Infrastructure and road connectivity also featured prominently during the discussions. Local leaders expressed concerns over sub-county road conditions, prompting the engineering department to outline maintenance plans funded through the Uganda Road Fund and road maintenance grants to target key rural stretches.
