The High Court at Luweero has officially dismissed an election petition challenging the parliamentary victory of Luweero District Woman Member of Parliament, Brenda Nabukenya.

Justice Vincent Emmy Mugabo delivered the ruling via the Electronic Court Case Management Information System. The petition had been filed by Agnes Kirabo Nantongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who contested the outcome of the January 15, 2026 parliamentary election against Nabukenya, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

In his judgment, Justice Mugabo held that Kirabo failed to discharge the required burden of proof under Section 80(3), which mandates that electoral grounds must be proven on a balance of probabilities. Kirabo had argued that the declared results did not match the votes recorded on the physical Declaration of Results forms from various polling stations.

Despite dismissing the petition and upholding Nabukenya’s mandate, the judge did not spare the Electoral Commission from criticism. Justice Mugabo remarked that the commission’s issuance of incompatible certified accounts “warrants serious criticism.”

The ruling solidifies the opposition’s political standing in the district following the recent electoral cycle. Further details on this case are available through the Daily Monitor.
