A Kampala-based photographer has found himself in serious legal trouble after allegedly conning a Member of Parliament out of Shs250,000.
Perez Maduma, a 27-year-old resident of Kisasi along Kanyanya Road, appeared before City Hall Senior Principal Magistrate Nicholas Aisu to face charges of obtaining money by false pretence, which runs contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the prosecution led by Mr Benjamin Amanya, the incident took place in October 2026 at Parliament. Court documents state that Maduma approached legislator Ms Mercy Kanyesigye and convinced her to part with Shs250,000 under the guise that he would provide professional photography services during an upcoming youth conference organized in Kamuli District.
Investigators contend that the accused had no intention of fulfilling his promise and collected the money with the sole intent to defraud the legislator.
During the court session, the charges were read to Maduma, and he formally denied the allegations. Mr Amanya informed the presiding magistrate that police investigations into the matter are now complete and requested that a hearing date be scheduled.
Following the brief proceedings, Magistrate Aisu ordered that Maduma be remanded to Luzira Prison until November 19, 2026. The prosecution is expected to present its evidence when the trial commences to substantiate the claims against the photographer.
